Does Kim Salmon really need an introduction? As the lead voice, guitarist and songwriter of seminal (yes, that word) Australian group Scientists, as chief contributor to the Beasts of Bourbon and as commander in charge of The Surrealists, The Business and Precious Jules, Salmon has been at the forefront of progressive post-punk for three decades. That progression took a left turn in 1999 though, when alongside the Hoodoo Gurus Dave Faulkner, Salmon (operating under the banner Antenna) scored his biggest ever hit with the electronic-dance cross-over track ‘Come On Spring’. Previous to that, Salmon and Faulkner had been at the forefront of the original Perth punk scene and bands like The Cheap Nasties, The Scientists and The Victims. For Dig it Up! Salmon will perform solo and in duo mode with fellow guitarist Spencer P. Jones covering material from all across his inspired career.
Spencer P. Jones.
For the most Spencer P. Jones has been regarded as one of this countries finest guitarists. His talent has seen him work with Paul Kelly, The Beasts of Bourbon and Rowland S. Howard but Jones is also a fine songwriter. In country-punk band The Johnnys, Spencer penned charting track Bleeding Heart (and under-rated Oz classic) while his time in the Beasts of Bourbon had him present the classics, A Place Called Bad and Execution Day amongst others. It was also in the Beasts that the guitar combo of Jones and Salmon began – a lethal combination by anyones standards. For Dig it Up! Spencer P. Jones will perform solo and back that up with a duo set with Kim Salmon. Another Dig it Up! Sydney exclusive.
